North Carolina is not a "zero-deductible glass" state like Florida, Kentucky, South Carolina, or Massachusetts — which means your out-of-pocket cost depends on your specific policy. But the majority of NC drivers are covered better than they think.
Two things determine your coverage
- Do you have comprehensive coverage? If you financed or leased your vehicle, you almost certainly do. Comprehensive is the part of your policy that covers non-collision damage like glass.
- What's your comprehensive deductible? Common values in NC: $250, $500, $1,000.
Repair (chip / small crack)
Every major carrier — Geico, State Farm, Progressive, Allstate, Nationwide, USAA, Liberty Mutual, Farmers, Travelers — waives the deductible entirely for repair. That means:
- You pay $0 out of pocket
- The claim doesn't count against your rate
- We file it for you — no phone calls on your end
Full replacement
Your carrier pays for the new windshield minus your comprehensive deductible. Example: $500 deductible on a $850 windshield replacement means you owe $500 and insurance pays $350.
The claim usually does not impact your premium (glass claims are non-fault comprehensive), but confirm with your agent to be certain.
ADAS recalibration billing
If your vehicle needs recalibration after replacement, that cost is billed to the same claim — you don't pay a second deductible.
