Modern vehicles watch the road through a camera mounted at the top of the windshield. Lane-keep assist, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and forward-collision warning all depend on that camera being pointed at exactly the right angle.
When your windshield is replaced, that camera is physically moved — even by a millimeter. Which is why every major auto manufacturer requires ADAS recalibration after a windshield replacement.
Static vs. dynamic recalibration
There are two recalibration types, and most vehicles need one or both:
- Static — done in a shop-like environment (we bring our targets to your driveway). Precision boards are placed a specific distance in front of the car and the camera is aligned to them.
- Dynamic — the vehicle is driven at a set speed on a marked road while the camera re-learns lane markings and objects.
What happens if you skip it?
Skipping recalibration doesn't just void your warranty — it means your car's safety systems may fire at the wrong moment or fail to fire when they should. That's a real liability risk in an accident.
